113: What Is A Tarot Spread?
A tarot spread is a specific layout or pattern in which tarot cards are placed during a reading. Each position in the spread is assigned a particular meaning or aspect of the querent’s life, and the card that lands in that position provides insight into that area. Tarot spreads can vary significantly in complexity, ranging from simple, three-card layouts to elaborate spreads involving ten or more cards.
One of the most well-known tarot spreads is the Celtic Cross. This spread typically uses ten cards and covers a comprehensive range of aspects, including the present situation, challenges, past influences, future possibilities, and the querent’s own perspectives and hopes. Each card is laid out in a particular order, and the reader interprets the cards based on their positions and the querent’s query.
Simple spreads, like the three-card spread, often focus on a more specific question or area of life. For example, a common three-card spread might include past, present, and future positions, offering a straightforward way to gain insight into a particular issue or decision. Regardless of the complexity, the purpose of any tarot spread is to provide clarity, guidance, and a deeper understanding of the querent’s situation through the symbolic language of the tarot cards.

Hi, I'm Rechelle.
I'm an Australian Psychic Medium, Tarot Teacher, Author and Spiritual Mentor. I've been helping people find clarity, confidence and peace of mind since 2001.
Over the past 25+ years, I've worked with more than 20,000 clients and students around the world through tarot, mediumship and spiritual guidance. My passion is helping people understand themselves more deeply, navigate life's challenges and move forward feeling lighter, calmer and more confident.
If you've never had a reading before, please don't feel nervous. One of the things I hear most often from clients is that having a session with me feels like sitting down for a chat with a trusted friend. I have a fun, bubbly personality, and while I take my work very seriously, I believe guidance doesn't have to feel heavy or intimidating.
My approach is practical, honest and down-to-earth. I won't tell you what you want to hear—I will always share the guidance I genuinely receive with kindness, compassion and integrity.
Whether you're looking for personal guidance, wanting to connect with a loved one in spirit, or you're ready to learn tarot for yourself, my goal is simple...
To help you leave feeling clearer, more empowered and with greater peace of mind than when you arrived.
Hugs
